License

Kanade is licensed AGPL-3.0-only. The license choice matches the project shape: a local-first workstation that operators can study, modify, and self-host, while networked modifications remain shareable under the same terms.

For users, the practical meaning is simple: Kanade is designed to be inspectable software, not a black-box hosted service. For contributors, changes should keep source, docs, diagnostics, installer metadata, and release proof aligned.

The source repository is private during alpha. The posture is still OSS-shaped: AGPLv3 metadata is present, no telemetry is built into the default workstation, and issue/report URLs are configurable rather than hardcoded to the maintainer’s private workflow.
